Trenching and Utility Excavation
Trenching and Utility Excavation in Bozeman
Utility trenching is the phase where safety and scheduling matter most, so Pmcsmith opens and closes trenches inside the same week. We dig for water, sewer, gas, electrical, and drainage lines with the right bedding material under the pipe and clean, compacted backfill over it. A run cut along Baxter Lane gets bedded, laid, and covered before it ever sits open overnight.
Why an Open Trench Is a Problem
An exposed trench invites wall collapse, standing water, and a stop-work order, and every day it stays open is a day your project is not moving. We plan the trench route so the pipe crew, the inspector, and the backfill all line up on the same short window. Nothing sits waiting near Mendenhall Street while a machine is off on another job.
Our Process
We file the 811 locate first and wait for the marks, then trench to line and grade. Any cut 5 feet or deeper gets a protective system, either sloping, benching, or a trench box, and our competent person inspects it daily under OSHA Subpart P. After the utility is set and inspected, we bed, backfill in lifts, and compact so the surface above will not settle over a 59718 sewer lateral.
